Is Victoria Secrets a plague or blessing?

Victoria Secrets is no stranger to being the topic of controversial conversations and mixed opinions. Their brand DNA is stereotypical skinny girls, traditional girly aesthetics and a American style. For most people, the brand is like marmite, you either love them completely or hate them. Some people love the brand aesthetic - American, skinny girls, pink and don't find it offensive one bit. However, others believe their stereotypical imagery is very insensitive to diversity and is frankly out dated.

Now unlike most people I don't hate it or love it, I am somewhere in between. In my opinion Victoria Secrets don't celebrate diversity enough to match the time we live in. They only use 'skinny, perfect' girls discriminating against different body types and they don't include enough racial diversity. Completely alienating those people and making them feel like they almost 'aren't allowed and don't deserve' to shop in a store like that. It creates a feeling of exclusion and unworthiness making them feel like they aren't good enough. No-one should ever be made to feel like that from a marketing or advertising campaign. However, like I said before the typical American values are the brands DNA, its what its known for. A lot of brands have changed this DNA to evolve with the modern world but Victoria Secrets have stuck to their values. Which in a way you have to respect that they are who they are and have admitted their flaws and embraced them. They aren't a brand who change every 5 minute so their aesthetic gets lost because in my opinion thats just as annoying as a more 'out of date' one. I also love the annual catwalk shows and there 'angel models'. I love looking at the over the top outfits and what the show is gonna be like year on year. They have made it into a event people definitely put in their diaries and something that is heavily discussed the next day.

Victoria Secrets in my eyes is just a brand that has values that are a bit out of touch with the diversity we have today and hasn't adapted to it to stick to its original DNA, I will let you decide whether thats right or wrong.
