How Interesting Is Our Perfume Industry?

We are bombarded with perfume ad after perfume ad, and can you honestly tell me they look any different? This industry is probably the most cliche and predictable industry of them all. You could take a Tom Ford advert and just switch the bottle and its not a Paco Rabanne advert and no-one would know the difference. There is no variety or anything innovative - they all have a celebrity or 'perfect' model posing with the bottle and someone from the opposite sex. The perfume industry is all about sex and they use it to sell a perfume. 'If you wear this perfume you will attract a partner" is the message behind every sexy perfume advert. Its all about the allure of attraction and sex - especially between heterosexual partners. There is no perfume advert that showcases and celebrates a homosexual relationship and there are very few adverts that highlight the importance of family/friendship relationships. The perfume industry is the only one that hasn't moved forward in this regard, they completely ignore the diversity within the term relationship and just focus on the stereotypical one. In my opinion in is dominated by sexuality and actually if they moved away from that they would have fair more innovative and interesting stories. There is also little interesting gender neutral perfumes - the most known one is Calvin Klein but I mean can you really say a white bottle with nothing else on it is very exciting and new. There needs to be a new approach to this industry as a whole to push it into the 21st century like everyone else and everything else. I mean whats interesting about a sexy perfume advert anymore?
